2. Explore the Food Scene in Little Italy

San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood is known for its vibrant food scene and whether you’re in the mood for classic American breakfast fare or something with a Latin twist, Little Italy has plenty of options to satisfy your cravings.

One popular spot for brunch in Little Italy is Morning Glory. This restaurant offers a wide range of delicious breakfast dishes including fluffy pancakes, savory breakfast sandwiches, and hearty omelets. 3. Visit the San Diego Zoo

If you’re looking for a fun and educational afternoon activity during your one day in San Diego, look no further than the San Diego Zoo. With over 3,500 animals and 650 different species, the San Diego Zoo is one of the most famous and beloved zoos in the world.

To make the most of your visit, be sure to check the hours of operation on the date of your visit. The zoo usually opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m., but during special events like the winter Jungle Bells and the summer Night Zoo, closing hours may be extended until after sunset.

Once you arrive at the zoo, be sure to grab a map and plan your route. With so many animals and exhibits to see, it can be easy to get lost or miss something you really wanted to see. You may also want to consider purchasing a guided bus tour or a Skyfari aerial tram ride to get a bird’s eye view of the zoo.

Finally, don’t forget to bring plenty of water and sunscreen, as the San Diego sun can be quite intense. And be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as you’ll be doing a lot of walking during your visit – and the zoo is quite hilly as well.

One of the most popular spots in Balboa Park is the Japanese Friendship Garden. This serene garden is a beautiful representation of the friendship between San Diego and Yokohama, its sister city in Japan. The garden is set on two levels with a koi pond, a tea house and a variety of plants and trees.

Botanical Building

And whilst you are here, a great spot for a coffee break is the Botanical Building. Inside the building, you’ll find a variety of exotic plants and flowers as well as a tranquil pond.

5. Tour the USS Midway Museum

Probably one of my most favourite things to do in San Diego, touring the USS Midway Museum is a journey through naval history offering an immersive experience aboard one of America’s longest-serving aircraft carriers. Anchored in the heart of San Diego’s waterfront, the USS Midway stands as a testament to the city’s rich maritime legacy and the bravery of those who served aboard. Visitors can explore over 60 exhibits, from the engine room to the flight deck, each providing a glimpse into the life of a sailor.

The museum is also home to an impressive collection of aircraft, showcasing the evolution of aviation technology over the decades. Interactive exhibits, flight simulators, and personal narratives from Navy veterans bring the ship’s storied past to life, offering a deeper understanding of naval warfare and the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women.
