3 Best Travel Pillows

Hey there travel enthusiasts and welcome to my post where we will check out my three best travel pillows to help you sleep whilst on the road this year. Whether traveling short or long distances, sitting upright can get a little uncomfortable after a while.

A common solution here is a travel pillow that can provide support as you sit or sleep. So for those of you in the market for a good portable pillow to meet your travel sleep needs, I have had a look around and come up with three decent options below.

What are Travel Pillows?

Small, portable pillows called “travel pillows” are created expressly to provide you with additional neck support as you sit in your airline or bus seat. They are available in various designs, sizes and materials with some made of latex or memory foam whilst others are inflatable.

Travel pillows help support the neck and head while preventing an upright sleeping position when flying, easing some pain and discomfort.

What Should You Be Looking For?

The following factors should be considered as you look around to a good travel pillow for your adventures.

Pillow shape

Initially, you have to decide which style of travel cushion best suits your requirements. The most popular pillows are typically flat and compressed for transportation or U-shaped variants that go around the neck.

U-shaped pillows are intended to stop the neck from bending laterally whereas a little flat cushion can be placed on a tray table, a neighbor’s shoulder, or, most usefully, against a window to provide lumbar support.

Thickness

When it comes to neck pillows, thickness is another aspect that should be taken into consideration.  The best rated travel pillows have sides should be at your earlobes’ height and the back of the neck should be flat or no thicker than the distance from the back of your neck to the back of your head (one to two inches).

If the cushion is excessively thick at the back, it may dump your head back and force your neck too far forward from the chair, which is terrible for your neck.

Fill material

Today, you may buy inflatable pillows filled with beads, memory foam, or merely with air. Memory foam is the most “travel-friendly” material and if you get a medium to medium-firm memory foam cushion, it will accommodate you but won’t allow you to sink too deeply.

Some are too soft and will cause your head to sag too much, but others are strong enough to hold your body in place while bending over. As long as they fit with your required size, other fillers like beads, buckwheat and cotton can also be worth a look.

Portability

A travel cushion is another thing to pack and remember when traveling. Finding space for anything as significant as a cushion might be difficult when a carry-on and a personal item are packed to the gills. 

The inflatable travel pillows are the easiest to take as they pack flat and can be inflated while you’re on the plane, deflated again before you get off, and stored wherever they’re deflated. 

Others stuffed with cotton or memory foam are more challenging to pack but still controllable. Neck pillows frequently include a front snap attachment that may be used to quickly fasten them to the handle of your bag or backpack.
