Best Golf Courses in Las Vegas

Ok, so here are some of the best, some I have been lucky enough to play, and others not – mainly due to the cost – but anyway, let’s have a look:

1. Shadow Creek Golf Course

Shadow Creek Golf Course is a premier golfing destination located in North Las Vegas. Owned by MGM Resorts International, this public course was designed by Tom Fazio and established in 1990 and spans 7,560 yards with a par of 72, offering a challenging yet rewarding experience for golfers.

The course is notable for its exclusivity, originally serving as Steve Wynn’s private club before opening to a limited number of MGM hotel guests. With a history of hosting prestigious events, including The Match: Tiger vs. Phil and the PGA Tour’s CJ Cup, Shadow Creek is a must-visit for golf enthusiasts.

Course Details

  • Length: The course measures 7,560 yards (6,910 meters), making it one of the longer courses available to the public.
  • Design: Redesigned in 2008 by Tom Fazio, the course now includes a 7-acre short game facility, enhancing the playing experience.
  • Signature Holes: The entire course is known for its meticulous design and the challenge it presents to golfers.

Shadow Creek offers top-notch amenities, including a state-of-the-art short game facility added during the 2008 redesign. As part of MGM Resorts International, golfers can expect exceptional service and facilities beyond the golfing experience.

Green Fees and Access

  • Green Fees: Historically, Shadow Creek was known for its $500 green fee, positioning it among the most expensive public courses.
  • Access Requirements: The course is open to a limited number of guests from MGM hotels, reflecting its exclusive nature.

To be honest, this is one that I couldn’t afford – even though I was staying at a MGM resort. The concierge did tell me how spectacular this course is so I guess I will have to take his word for it.

2. TPC Las Vegas Golf Course

TPC Las Vegas, formerly known as TPC at The Canyons, is a prestigious 18-hole golf course nestled in the Summerlin community of western Las Vegas, Nevada. Established in 1996, this public course was designed by Bobby Weed with consultation from tour professional Raymond Floyd.

As part of the PGA Tour’s Tournament Players Club network, TPC Las Vegas has hosted the Las Vegas Senior Classic on the Champions Tour from 1994 to 2001 and is recognized for its challenging layout. It has also been featured in video games, such as the PS1 version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001.

Course Details

  • Length: The course spans 7,063 yards, offering a par of 71. This length presents a challenging yet fair test to golfers of all skill levels.
  • Design: The collaboration between Bobby Weed and Raymond Floyd has resulted in a course that blends seamlessly with the natural desert landscape, providing stunning vistas and a unique golfing experience.
  • Signature Holes: TPC Las Vegas is known for its scenic beauty and challenging holes that require strategic play.

TPC Las Vegas is equipped with a range of amenities to enhance the golfer’s experience. These include a well-appointed clubhouse, practice facilities and dining options. The course is part of the TPC Network, ensuring high standards of service and facilities consistent with PGA Tour venues.

These amenities ensure a comfortable and luxurious golfing experience, complementing the beautiful course conditions.

Green Fees and Access

Like most courses, green fees are adjusted based on the time of year however they are a little on a pricey side.

Reviews suggest that while the course offers a premium experience, some golfers feel the fees might reflect more on the location and amenities than the course difficulty or uniqueness itself. In my experience, I would have to agree here. Don’t get me wrong, the course is really quite good and so close to the strip you can probably play a hand at Mandalay Bay in between nines as well.

4. Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort

Now we come to one of my absolute favorites in the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. This is a premier golfing destination located just 25 minutes northwest of the Las Vegas Strip that features three magnificent championship golf courses, all designed by the World Golf Hall of Fame architect Pete Dye.

These courses represent Dye’s only pure designs in Nevada, offering a unique golfing experience that combines challenging play with stunning desert landscapes.

  • Practice Facilities: Extensive practice facilities are available, including a driving range and putting greens, allowing golfers to warm up or refine their skills.
  • Event Hosting: The resort is equipped to host tournaments and special events, offering a picturesque backdrop for any occasion.

Green Fees and Access

Again, it’s typical for rates to vary based on the time of year, day of the week and which of the three courses is being played. The resort encourages golfers to book tee times in advance however they do offer discounts if you play more than one course in a day – our deal included lunch as well!

As I have said, this one is my non-negotiable must play in Vegas with a challenging, breathtaking scenery, and top-notch amenities. And for what you get to play on, the green fees are very reasonable as well.

8. Wynn Golf Club

Wynn Golf Club, located on the iconic Las Vegas Strip, offers a unique golfing experience that contrasts sharply with the desert landscape of Nevada. This 18-hole championship course, redesigned by the legendary architect Tom Fazio and his son Logan Fazio, stands as the only casino resort course in Las Vegas.

The course, originally designed in 2005 and later revisited, spans 6,722 yards and is a par-70, designed to challenge golfers of all skill levels.

Course Details

  • Length: 6,722 yards
  • Par: 70
  • Design: The course features dramatic elevation changes, over 8,000 trees (including 1,200 from the Desert Inn Golf Club legacy), and water on 12 of the 18 holes. Two marshland areas are fed by natural groundwater, adding to the course’s beauty and challenge.

Now, this is a course that quite surprised me as to be honest, I was expecting it to be a little Bali Hai like in that I would be paying for the location and name. All I can say is forget all that and get onto it. It is a little pricey but you won’t be disappointed.

10. Wolf Creek Golf Course Mesquite

Now, I have drawn rather a long bow with this one as it is located around 80 miles (128km) from Las Vegas. However due to the fact that it is literally carved out of the desert landscape, it is so spectacular that I had to include it here. And as with TPC Las Vegas, it has also been featured in a video game highlighting the fact that the course is a masterpiece that has received widespread acclaim, making it a must-visit for golf enthusiasts.

Signature Holes and Course Experience

After playing all eighteen holes, golfers (including me) often find it challenging to single out just one signature hole, thanks to the course’s overall beauty and design. The picturesque landscape and the strategic layout leave a lasting impression, often overshadowing the scores.

From personal experience however, I will say that standing on the top tee box of the third hole will literally take your breath away.

The course features a driving range and fully stocked pro shop as well as a bar and restaurant.

Green Fees

  • Green fees: Range depending on day and time ranging from around $130 to $300 per round

Look, the last time I played it was post-pandemic and the club house and outside facilities had definitely experienced the toll of the absence of maintenance staff. The course however was still immaculate and really an amazing spectacle to play on.
