Places to Watch the Sunset in Bali
Ok, so I have listed some good spots below but before you read on, I have a few things to let you know about – especially if you have not been to Bali before. The first thing is that Bali is an island, so as long as you are near the coastline on the western side of the island, then you are probably going to be able to see a great sunset.
Then, once you have seen the sunset on one side, then hope over to the other the next morning to watch the sunrise as well – these can be equally as spectacular.
Anyway, let’s look at the best places to watch the sunsets in Bali.

1. Uluwatu Temple
Uluwatu Temple is a popular tourist attraction and one of the best places to watch the sunset in Bali. It is located on a cliff, about 70 meters above the Indian Ocean providing a breathtaking view of the sun setting over the sea. The temple, also known as Pura Luhur Uluwatu, is one of the six key temples believed to be Bali’s spiritual pillars.
The temple is famous for its traditional Balinese architecture, which includes intricate carvings and a beautiful entrance gate. Visitors can explore the temple grounds, which include a small forest of monkeys and a Kecak dance performance at sunset, which is a must-see experience.
To reach the temple, visitors must walk through a pathway lined with souvenir shops. The temple is open from 9 am to 6 pm, and visitors are required to wear a sarong and sash, which can be rented at the entrance. It is recommended to arrive early to avoid crowds and enjoy the stunning views of the temple and the ocean.
2. Tanah Lot Temple
Located on the Southwestern coast of Bali, in the Tabanan Regency, Tanah Lot Temple is a 16th-century temple that stands on a rock formation surrounded by the Indian Ocean. The temple is believed to be guarded by sea snakes, and is one of the most popular spots on the island to watch the sunset.
It costs 60,000 IDR to visit Tanah Lot Temple, and a visit should take around an hour. Visitors can explore the temple and the surrounding area, take pictures and enjoy the stunning views of the sunset. It is important to respect the temple’s customs and dress appropriately, as it is a sacred place for Balinese Hindus. During high tide, the temple appears to be floating on the sea, which adds to its beauty.
It is important to note that the temple can get crowded during sunset, and visitors are advised to arrive early to secure a good spot. A little trick here however is that if you walk up into the adjacent park, there is also a great restaurant that overlooks the cliffs if you care to dine whilst watching the sunset as well.
To get to Tanah Lot Temple, visitors can use a tour, hire a private transport, or rent a motorbike. It is recommended to hire a private transport or use a tour if you are not familiar with the area, as the temple is not close to any popular tourist areas.
