Seminyak is also home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Bali. The beaches here are wide and sandy with crystal clear waters, making them perfect for swimming, surfing and sunbathing with some of the most popular including Double Six Beach, Seminyak Beach and Petitenget Beach.

This small coastal village is located about 10 km north of Kuta and offers a more relaxed surf and beach culture compared to the bustling Seminyak. Although on my last visit to Bali in mid 2023, Canggu had certainly become a bit busier than it used to be!

Canggu is known for its excellent surf spots, attracting surfers from all over the world. The village has around 10 km of beach with black sand and a more rustic vibe. If you’re not into surfing, you can still enjoy the beach and soak up the sun.

Apart from surfing, Canggu also offers a range of activities such as yoga, horse riding and cycling. There are plenty of yoga studios offering classes for all levels and the beautiful rice fields surrounding the village make for a great cycling or horse riding experience.

When it comes to accommodation, Canggu has a range of options from budget-friendly hostels to luxury villas. You can find some great deals on Airbnb, or if you prefer a more traditional hotel experience, there are plenty of options available as well.

Canggu also has a vibrant food scene with a range of cafes and restaurants offering both local and international cuisine. You can find everything from traditional Indonesian dishes to vegan and gluten-free options.

Prices for accommodation in Seminyak can vary depending on the location and the quality of the facilities but are generally considered some of the most expensive on the island.

Food and Dining

Seminyak is a food lover’s paradise with plenty of restaurants and cafes serving delicious local and international cuisine. You can find everything from street food to fine dining in Seminyak where some of the most popular dishes include Nasi Goreng, Satay and Gado-Gado. If you’re a vegetarian or vegan, you’ll find many restaurants that cater to your dietary needs as well.


Seminyak is known for its vibrant nightlife, with plenty of bars and clubs that stay open until the early hours of the morning. You can find everything from beach clubs to rooftop bars in Seminyak. Staying in Canggu

If you’re looking for a laid-back, surfer vibe in Bali, Canggu is the place to be. Here’s what you need to know about living in Canggu.


Canggu has a range of accommodation options to suit different budgets. You can find anything from hostels to luxury villas. Some popular areas to stay in Canggu include Berawa, Batu Bolong and Echo Beach with most accommodations within walking distance of the beach and are surrounded by rice paddies and lush greenery.

Canggu has a great food scene with plenty of options to suit different tastes and budgets. You’ll find everything from local Indonesian cuisine to international dishes.

Some popular places to eat in Canggu include Motel Mexicola (there is one of these in Seminyak as well), Crate Cafe, Betelnut Cafe, and Deus Ex Machina and you can also find plenty of vegan and vegetarian options in Canggu too.


Canggu has a more laid-back nightlife scene compared to Seminyak. There are plenty of bars and clubs to choose from, but they tend to close earlier than in Seminyak. Some popular places to go out in Canggu include Old Man’s, The Lawn, and Pretty Poison.


Canggu has a number of boutique shops and markets where you can find unique clothing, jewelry and homeware items. Some popular places to shop in Canggu include Love Anchor Canggu, Samadi Sunday Market and Canggu Square. You can also find surf shops and art galleries if you look around as well.

Transportation in Seminyak vs Canggu

Getting around in Seminyak and Canggu is relatively easy, but there are some differences between the two areas when it comes to transportation.

Getting to and from Seminyak and Canggu

Seminyak and Canggu are located approximately 10 km apart and the easiest way to get between the two is by taxi or scooter. Taxis are readily available in both areas and the ride takes around 20 minutes. Scooters can be rented from various rental shops, and it’s a great way to explore both areas at your own pace. If you are looking at spending the day cruising around the two, then it might also pay to hire a driver.

If you prefer a scenic route, you can even walk along the beach from Canggu to Seminyak. The walk takes around 1.5 hours and offers stunning views of the ocean along the way.

Transportation options in Seminyak

Seminyak is a busy area and traffic can be quite congested, especially during peak hours. However, there are several transportation options available to help you get around:

  • Taxi: Taxis are readily available in Seminyak and most drivers use a meter – look for these before you get in. Blue Bird and Grab are two reliable taxi companies in the area.
  • Scooter: Scooters are a popular way to get around Seminyak, and they can be rented from various rental shops. However, traffic can be quite chaotic, so it’s important to be cautious when driving.
  • Bicycle: Bicycles can also be rented in Seminyak, and it’s a great way to explore the area at a slower pace.
  • Go-Jek: Go-Jek is a popular ride-hailing app in Indonesia, and it’s available in Seminyak. It offers a range of services, including transportation, food delivery, and more.

Safety in Seminyak vs Canggu
